LIVING CULTURES: Dance Meets Techno Heritage
Joint Action Day by the German UNESCO Commission and the Bundeskunsthalle – powered by Rave The Planet
Dance and music are inseparable. Both are universal languages that unite people around the globe. Both are living cultural heritage: cultural practices passed down from person to person and from generation to generation. On November 10, 2024, the German UNESCO Commission and the Bundeskunsthalle will celebrate this shared treasure at the “Cultural Heritage Dance” Action Day in Bonn – with Rave The Planet representing Berlin’s techno culture. Admission is free.
Berlin’s techno culture, which emerged from the dark underground and into the daylight with the Love Parade in 1989, has grown into an international movement and an established cultural phenomenon. Since 2022, the non-profit rave the planet gGmbH has carried on this tradition with the dance and music demonstration “Rave The Planet Parade,” allowing a new generation to experience the power of peace, community, and culture.
“Through techno and dance, we spread the message of Love, Peace, Unity, and Respect to the world, showing how these values are still lived and shared today.” – Dr. Motte
Berlin’s Techno Culture in Bonn
The live talk “From the Streets to the Museum: Techno as Intangible Cultural Heritage” featuring Dr. Motte, visionary and co-founder of the Berlin Love Parade, Ellen Dosch-Roeingh, co-founder and shareholder of Rave The Planet, and Prof. Dr. Manuel Trummer, will explore the profound cultural impact of techno and its recognition as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The interactive techno dance performance “Resonance” curated by Das Techno Team (Baniel Lior Shinder and Mark Schloms), invites visitors to learn the “Techno Basics,” experience the unifying energy of collective raving, and become part of this shared moment through their own movements.
The day will be rounded off with a visual homage to Berlin’s techno culture. A selection of paintings and photographs from the exhibition “BERLIN TECHNO” by artist duo The Glitterboys (Thomas Swims and Sebastian Hanft) will bring the spirit of Berlin’s techno scene to life for visitors in Bonn.
Finally, from 5:00 PM, the Bundeskunsthalle will transform into a vibrant techno temple. Dr. Motte and DJ rising star Isabelle Beaucamp will spin the decks, inviting everyone to celebrate these living cultural forms through dance and techno.
