Rave The Planet Parade – Clean-Up Day 2023
? Rave The Planet – SAVE THE TIERGARTEN! ?
We take our responsibility towards nature and the environment very seriously, so that future generations will also find a livable planet to rave on. According to the motto “Leave no trace”, we will clean up the Tiergarten park after the parade. ?
Please sign up on the official volunteer platform and join our ECO TEAM to ensure we have enough equipment such as gloves, buckets, garbage tongs, etc.
Why A Clean-Up Day?
Wherever there are many people, more garbage is automatically generated. The Berlin Senate Department for the Environment, Mobility, Consumer and Climate Protection wrote in a press release on November 22, 2022:
“In the metropolis of Berlin, around 1,600 tons of waste are generated at public events every year, of which 750 tons are caused by major events with more than 100,000 visitors. Much of this waste could be avoided or recycled.”
We also count our demonstration, the Rave The Planet Parade, among these large-scale events. In 2022, about 300,000 participants paraded through Berlin’s streets. According to information from BSR, around 135 cubic meters of trash were removed from the streets afterwards, mainly beverage packaging such as glass bottles and drink cartons. This corresponds to 135,000 liters. Per capita, that’s an average of just 0.45 liters, which is far below the figure for comparable demonstrations, but still a lot.
Not included in this statistics were the leftovers on the green areas, respectively in the Tiergarten park. This area was cleaned by our team and about 50 volunteers, on Sunday after the parade. By this activity, a total 1.34 square kilometers of the park could be cleaned from old and new garbage.
We are living in times of great change where pro-active rethinking and action is required. This is a process that concerns not only demonstrations and events of all kinds, but all of us – WE ARE ONE.
Meeting Point:
We will meet on Sunday, July 09, at 11:30 a.m. in front of Brandenburg Gate, on the Platz des 18. März. This is where we will start our clean-up tour through Großer Tiergarten park.
