What remains of an idea after millions of people have experienced it? And what happens when it seems to come to an end—but never truly disappears?

The new ARD documentary “Love Is Stronger – From Love Parade to Rave The Planet“ explores exactly these questions. It tells the story of a movement that began as a political demonstration in 1989, grew into the world’s largest techno parade, fell silent after the tragedy in Duisburg, and has now found new life in a new era.

But this is about more than nostalgia. It’s about responsibility. About remembrance. About techno as culture. And about the role electronic music plays in our society today.

MORE THAN A STORY ABOUT LOVEPARADE

Director Britta Mischer follows the creation of the very first Rave The Planet Parade in 2022, weaving it together with the defining moments of Loveparade – from its early days on Berlin’s Kurfürstendamm, through its rise as a global phenomenon, to its tragic end in Duisburg.

Among those featured are Dr. Motte, Danielle de Picciotto, Westbam, Ellen Dosch-Roeingh, and many other people who helped shape the history of electronic music culture—or continue to shape its future today.

The documentary doesn’t shy away from difficult questions. It explores different perspectives on commercialization, remembrance, responsibility, and whether the original spirit of Loveparade can truly be preserved.

At the same time, the documentary looks ahead. It shows how techno culture has evolved over the years. Care-centered awareness practices, diversity, new collectives, perspectives from FLINTA* communities, cultural responsibility, and the commitment to creating safer spaces for everyone have become an integral part of today’s scene.

Rave The Planet is not a copy of Loveparade. It is the evolution of its original idea: a nonprofit cultural and political demonstration for peace, love, respect, diversity, and the preservation of electronic music culture.
