Sustainability and Transformation at Rave The Planet

With the founding of our non-profit organization in 2019, the topics of sustainability and awareness have not only taken deep root in our thinking but are also being proactively implemented. Due to the prevailing global ecological, economic, and social challenges, we are taking on the far-reaching civil society responsibility.

As a non-profit organization and event organizers, we want to continue driving and strengthening the sustainable transformation for techno culture and the event industry with a lot of commitment, diversity, education, and various project work.

Clean-Ups Overview

We organize clean-ups at least three times a year to clear the Großer Tiergarten of litter.

The dates for these events are:

April 29 – International Dance Day

Since 1982, International Dance Day has been celebrated annually on April 29, honoring dance as a universal language of the world. On this symbolic day, it is particularly important to us at Rave The Planet to ensure that future generations inherit a livable planet where they can continue to rave peacefully.

Sunday after the Parade

Following the principle of “Leave no trace,” we, together with many volunteers, make sure that the Großer Tiergarten is clean again after the parade. We do not differentiate between waste left from the parade or pre-existing litter – everything is collected and disposed of.

#GreenSaturday

The Saturday between Black Friday and Cyber Monday is designated as #GreenSaturday. This initiative is a clear statement against the annual cycle of excessive consumerism before the start of the Christmas season.

PFANDINSEL (“Deposit Island”)

A socially sustainable, visionary, and transformative mammoth project

Due to the steadily increasing littering in public spaces, a clean appearance has the highest priority for politics and administration. Whether in everyday life or at various events such as festivals, markets, and fairs – a significant amount of waste is generated by visitors and residents, with deposit bottles and cans now making up a large portion.

The modular DEPOSIT ISLANDS, a collaboration with PFANDGEBEN, offer a solution and are being implemented as a temporary or stationary pilot project at the district level in local neighborhoods.

Nearly one million people in Germany collect deposit bottles and cans: on the street, in trash bins, at train stations, etc.

The DEPOSIT ISLANDS help to improve conditions for deposit collectors and simplify the return of deposits. Our solution is more dignified, accessible, and hygienic.

Anyone can drop off or pick up deposits at the islands. Large, prominent signs make it much easier for deposit collectors to find the islands. By placing glass bottles in containers, not only is the risk of breakage reduced, but cleanliness and safety at large events and demonstrations are also significantly improved.

Through the PFANDGEBEN app, additional deposit collectors can be contacted directly if needed.

Until 2023, there were hardly any practical and socially sustainable solutions to permanently address these challenges, except for the DEPOSIT ISLANDS. These are not only an environmental policy tool but also sustainably influence the behavioral economics of civil society. However, various initiatives for deposit rings or deposit shelves across Germany have neglected a crucial component: often, suitable trash bins of appropriate size are missing, and the choice of location is of critical importance.
